Abbey with 3.1 kids to care for at home is something of the extraordinary. She keeps them busy by teaching, training, planning and feeding all three while keeping herself sane by talking with other moms. At the end of the each day she wonders why she keeps this up; because at the beginning of each morning she is reminded with the great smiles and kisses from all her kids: Zhao Kids.
What a wonderful weekend we had visiting and rekindling with the friends in Brooklyn. As usual, Kaiye made a feast of a dinner for everyone to eat. CC was able to join us via video call to have a chance to talk with everyone. The other kids get to see their friends Darion, Cerea, Samuel, Zoe,Gabriel, on a yearly basis and catch up too.
Abbey is in a Facebook group for Cantonese Recipes. She posted Kaiye's Turkey recipe and received many accolade comments on the recipe and has close to 300 likes.
As part of your year tradition, the very next morning, on Friday we pilgrimage to Brooklyn New York to see our friends up there. This year is a bit different since SS needed driving hours, he drove 3/4 of the way there, the whole three hours while Da was sitting next to him and the girls were sleeping in the back. Da was actually technically still 'working' but having the luxury of 'working from home' or 'working on the road' while teaching SS how to drive long distance worked out well.
We visited Angela and Edmond Cheung's family. Our kids are similar age as theirs so they got along great with Samuel, Zoe, and Gabriel. In fact we went mall shopping and the kids went on their own while the moms shopped.
This year Nancy Chin as so gracious to let us stay over at her house. On Saturday morning, we planned to visit our old landlord, Leung Po, which Abbey and Da rented one side of the floor when we lived in Brooklyn New York. But before we go over there to visit, Kaiye, already made breakfast for us to eat. Since it was on the way to visit Leung Po, we ate a huge delicious breakfast and then headed to Leung Po's house to visit her.
Leung Po's health is deteriorating. She is 94 years old this year. She was very happy to see us. And the first thing she did was give red envelopes to the kids. When we first arrived, she was still in bed and was a little groggy, but after 15-20 minutes, she was much more alert and smiling and laughing with SS and FF. We even had CC on video chat to talk with her. Popo like to show the picture of her with Abbey and I to our kids. That photo was take over 10 years ago and is the only picture she puts up on her table next to her bed. After a while, the kids were playing truth of dare and they both dared each other to kiss Popo on the cheek. That worked out really well because that made her extremely happy, laughing and grinning. After we stayed there for hour and half, it was time for us to leave and she was very sad and got teary because she keep saying that she might not live long enough to see us next time.
After visiting Leung Popo, we headed to Manhattan Temple for scheduled Baptisms for the Dead. Normally we would take the train but this time we drove there. It was a beautiful day and was a great scenery as we were on the Brooklyn Bridge. This year, in the Temple, SS was old enough to baptize people. He baptized Da and another person at the font. It was a wonderful experience.
While in Manhattan, we went to visit the Happy Potter store. The store setup was quite amazing visually. Then had a awesome display of books, wands, green elevator, and the Butter Beer counter was attractive to the eyes. The best part was that Nancy Chin treated the kids to Butter Beer!
