Saturday was packed of activities. When we heard that the New York Manhattan Temple was going to close soon for renovation for three years, we left early morning for baptism session.
Afterwards, we went to the One World Observatory at the base of the 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attack. We had a great view of the city, the bridges, Statue of Liberty, and New Jersey. Then we proceeded to check out "The Oculus" and then the World Trade Center memorial. Abbey pointed out to the kids that she used to work right across from the WTC, but fortunately her intern was done the week before the attack.
When we toured WTC, Nancy Chin was very gracious to offer her car to drive to the city. She even drove around while we toured Ground Zero.
Then we drove back to Brooklyn and had a late lunch at 86th Street eating HK style noodles. The food was pretty good.
After eating, we went to visit our beloved Leung Popo that Abbey and I rented when we first got married. We only stayed at the place for one year but we continued to be friends for over 20 years and we visit her each time we go to New York. Apparently she was so happy to see us that she waited all day and was quite ecstatic with her face lighten up when she saw us. Her health looked better than last year and more alert, although she lost weight. Her oldest daughter was there and we learned that she is 96 years old!
After Leung popo, we went to Diane for dinner. It was a feast! Kaiye cooked so much food! from ox tail, to fresh fish, lobster, crabs, veggies, and soup. Our old friends also came for dinner including the Yau family with Darion and Cerea. The kids had their table to eat and play card games while the adults sat on the dining and chattered away. It was a great great evening.
The next day, Sunday, kids gave Diane and Kaiye red envelopes in which they drew photos of Diane and Kaiye with our family. They were delighted. Also Kaiye likes the kids so much we bought charsiu, duck, pineapple buns, and all kinds of delicious food for our journey back home. Unlike years past where we leave church to go back to Kaiye's to pick up the food, this time he even drove to the church to drop it off so we can just leave from church
