The weekend of June 24-26 2016, we went camping with the 4H group. It was great! This place is called The Treehouse Camp close to Harper's Ferry. Many families booked a tree house cabin but we decided to book a camp site. I am kind of glad we booked a camping site instead because the cabins were really small and only made for sleeping..not much room to walk around like our 8 person tent. We arrived late so we didn't do anything that night but pitched the tent and went to bed. The next morning we had an adventure waiting for us.
It was difficult to keep the fire going due to the heavy rainfall a couple days earlier but thanks to the kids getting the fire going, we had a very hearty breakfast of chicken thighs and wings. We were very full.
With a big breakfast, we were ready for the the day ahead of us! First, we went zip lining! None of us have done it before and even FF was not scared! It was a very fun ride!
After zip lining, we were supposed to go tubing but due to heavy rain the couple days before, the river water rose one foot. Due to the higher water on the river, they only allow kids twelve and over to be on the river. Since originally all of us were suppose to go, only CC went with the group and we stayed behind with the kids. However the two younger ones were very understanding and enjoyed their time on the shore catching small fish.
There's CC from the lazy river ride that he apparently fell through the hole and is holding on for dear life so he doesn't sink into the river. The water is about his chest height but he was still scared, however he still loved it.
At night we have a marshmallow gathering of all the people that went camping. Below is how the inside of the cabin looks like. It's very compact and only have boards for sleep; no walking space or anything.
Since we had a little time and we were in the area, we decided to go hiking in the area. We asked the camping front desk and they directed us to the Appalachian Trail, well at least a small part of it. It was a great choice as it took us for a one mile hike to an overview of the Shenandoah River at Weverton Cliff. It was a good hike!
After the hiking, we were supposed to go to get some paperwork form SS's violin's lesson starting te next day, then followed by swimming at our neighborhood pool. However we received a phone call from the Scouts H.O.S.T.I.N.G which means a store where you can get used scouting gear for free from other scouts that have moved on or no longer want to be in scouts. So they called and the earliest we can go is at 5pm and after putting in the address in the GPS, it was only 12 mins from SS's school but like a good 35 mins from our house. So we went to the library for 2 1/2 hours and finally get there. However there was one person ahead of us and took him an hour to finish. Then the person finally get to us. He basically we through each item we were interested in and make sure it is in working order, fits properly, and feels right before letting all four of us go. So end up spending 3 hours there and that was at 9pm. The other two were very patient and played patty-cakes while the scout leader fitted everyone all the gear. So now we have all kinds of scouting gear to do a lot more adventures ahead of us!!!
