Another week in 香港 and it is somehow 84°F still on November 17, almost a week away from Thanksgiving :')
This week has been a grind, but nothing too special. As of recently, our teaching pool has been some shakily scheduled English friends because of their uncertain workdays. I am so humbled by their willingness to meet with us, even when they receive such little rest time.
This week I found so much gratitude for Yuen Long. There are so many activities to invite friends to, such as weekly ball night and family home evenings, and it is so helpful to have members who are diligent and happy to help. It is so special to also serve in the English Branch, which was formed less than a year ago. Although they are mainly Filipina sisters, they have been the most funny, friendly, and diligent people I have ever met.
Since being here, I have also found that the geography of Yuen Long is very different than Tai Po; other than a couple urban areas, 80-90% of Yuen Long is packed with low, shack-like one-story houses called 'chyuns.' In the same pattern, the chapel is also a 25 minute walk from the closest train stop or bus, down a road where nearly no one walks. It's certainly a change from the Tai Po chapel that is next to the MTR station, haha. This week since many lessons fell through, we spent a lot of time waiting in the chapel, so we had some time to do some social media work or extra studies.
One of the biggest blessings from this week was being able to attend church with my non-member grandma. Since my mom was visiting Hong Kong this week, she came with grandma on Sunday to visit. I also had the opportunity this same week to give a talk! It was so special to see my grandma paying attention to each speaker, and I am so grateful for her. I hope she comes again.

This past Sunday, Maria, who's family had just started to come to church, shared a story about Marvin, their five year old son.
During school, his teacher had asked him to list his favorite people in the world. He started, "mom, dad, grandma.." including other family members and friends, and then at last, he exclaimed, "Jesus!" The teacher was impressed, and Marvin, super proud.
We have only been teaching Marvin for a couple of weeks so far, and he has been so excited to learn each time. When the opportunity arises, he always volunteers for prayer, and is super excited to make new friends, regardless of age.
It reminds me of Mosiah 3:19, which states how we must "becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love..."
Even though I have this awesome chance to teach Marvin, I also am learning from him— his enthusiasm, his curiosity, and his love. I am so grateful for this period in my life of reflection and gratitude, and invite you all to find time to appreciate the simple things.

Tomorrow is scheduled to drop 20°F down to 60° F and I am so looking forward to it. I hope you are all staying warm as the weather cools down, and hope you all have a great week!
