For the final event of the year, Troop 773 went camping at Assateague Island, there was as total of about 30 scouts and 13 adults. The scouts had an amazing time cooking, playing at the beach, seeing horses roaming visiting the camp, and went Go Cart racing. Da was the adult cook so he decided to bring a dewalt drill as a mixer to make some of the food. SS and Da had an amazing time!
Here's is SS's experience
This campout was a fabulous trip. Arriving at around 11 pm Friday night, I set up my tent and we went to bed without doing much on the first day. On Saturday, my cook, Naman served us some of his vegetarian indian food for breakfast which was surprisingly good. I also had some questionable scrambled eggs with NaCl crystals I felt with my teeth... Regardless, we were free from then until noon, so I went to the sand area to play. There were also a lot of mosquitoes and beetles because of the humid weather and proximity of the beach. The campsite was set up in a way that there was a big grass area and of which a boardwalk marked the end. On the other side were the bathrooms and washhouses. Down the boardwalk there was a lot of horse dung and the boardwalk led to a sand area which eventually led down to the water. I took my blue and gray volleyball Andrew gave to me to the beach area where the freshman and some of the senior scouts played for a little while before Nick, Pat and other freshmen tried to wrestle each other. A man approached us after a short while and ended up being the entertainment of the afternoon. After informing us that he had been drinking since 2 AM, he challenged Nick to a wrestling match, which he emerged victorious. After a bit of coaching from Fred and Nick, he finally tried to challenge Fred but he could not do anything since Fred was just so big. After this spectacle, we took the troop down to the beach at around 2 pm. There, we played football in the sand (a boy forgot to tighten his pants), swam and played tag in the water and the first years made multiple sand castles. We had our bagged lunch on the beach and after we were tired we went back to the camp to change. Dad and I went down to another place to shower and dad ended up not showering because “the water is cold,” in fact, “too cold.”
When everyone was done showering, the troop went down the Ocean City boardwalk. A coordinated movement had a bunch of the senior scouts arriving wearing “I love hot boys” shirts.” We met up at a pizza place on the boardwalk with the rest of the scouts where we had pizza for dinner. I almost lost the troop when I finished using the bathroom and came out to find no one there. Luckily, I was able to run and catch up with everyone and everything went fine. The last activity of the day and essentially of the campout was by far my favorite experience. Off the coast of Ocean City was an amusement park called Jolly Rogers which was a water park. Along with the water park there was also a go cart place called SpeedWorld. Albeit stinky from the gasoline fumes, the go karts went fast and the staff were very lenient. On their newest course, the twister, I managed to finish first out of 20-30 other karts. Even when some of our passes started to expire, the staff still let us pump another half hour out of our time there. I also almost lost my wallet on the way out of the last ride, which was nearly $60 down the drain. Anyways, I had a blast racing and flooring the karts, at times drifting so hard I could see dust behind me. At the end of the day, I was exhausted and I went straight to bed after we got back to the campsite. There was nothing much more that happened, since we were on the way home directly after breakfast on Sunday. Overall, I had a great experience, and really hope to plan something this well as SPL next year.
Note: Since Krishna wasn't here due to Covid, Kestin and I had our first debut as SPLs of the troop. I really didn't do much and Kestin did most of the announcing and led the site sweep.
